His real identity is unknown.[1] He creates digital glitched artworks usually concerning death, dystopia and apathy through flashing imagery and distorted loops, with hints to the cryptocurrency community regarding concepts, mood and terminology. He is also one of the highest selling NFT artists.[2]

NFTs

XCOPY is known as one of the first digital artists ever making NFTs out of his artworks. His artworks were first turned into NFTs in 2018, in platforms like SuperRare and others.[3] He is commonly credited with introducing mainstream digital artists like Beeple to NFTs.[citation needed]

Notable works

Right-Click and Save As Guy

Right-Click and Save As Guy is one of the most famous XCOPY's artworks. The piece is considered to be one of the most important digital artworks amongst the Cryptocurrency/NFT communities due to its meaning, which aims at subtly making fun of those who think saving, or screenshotting an image means owning its related NFT.[4] The piece started receiving attention on 13 March 2021, in a BBC World News article.[5] Its latest buyer purchased it for about $7,000,000 on 9 December 2021, making it one of the highest selling digital artworks.[6]

Grifters

On 3 March 2022, XCOPY launched via the NFT platform "Async" the collection "Grifters", 666 different images commonly used as avatars/online identities amongst the cryptocurrency communities.[7]

Max Pain and Frens

On 24 March 2022, XCOPY auctioned on NFT platform Nifty Gateway a series of five artworks called "Max Pain and Frens". "Max Pain", the main artwork of the series, was auctioned to be a ten minutes Open Edition, thus purchasable from 6:30 PM to 6:40 PM PST by anyone at a fixed price of $3100, with no limits of quantity. It resulted to be the highest Open Edition selling piece ever, netting more than $24.000.000 in ten minutes.[8][9]
