The Çelebi are a Kurdish tribe that are known for their closeness to the Turkish state.[1]

They are involved in a long running land dispute with the 1,600-year-old Syriac Orthodox Mor Gabriel Monastery.[1] They have been accused in participating in the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and they are currently allied to the Turkish government in its fight against the PKK insurgency.[1]
