David Sklansky at the 1979 World Series of Poker

David Sklansky (born in Teaneck, New Jersey) is a professional poker player and author.

Sklansky is generally considered one of the top authorities on gambling, especially poker. He is the author or co-author of many books on poker, blackjack, and gambling in general. His work, the Theory of Poker, is considered by some to be a quintessential primer on Poker.

Sklansky has won three World Series of Poker bracelets, two in 1982 ($800 Mixed Doubles, and $1000 Draw Hi) and in 1983 ($1000 Limit Omaha Hi). He also won the Poker By The Book invitational event on the World Poker Tour, overcoming a 10:1 chip disadvantage against Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson, and outlasted Phil Hellmuth Jr, Mike "The Mad Genius" Caro, TJ Cloutier and Mike Sexton.

Sklansky graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1970. He resides in Henderson, Nevada.

As of 2005, his total live tournament winnings exceed $300,000.

Books

Sklansky has authored or co-authored 12 books on gambling theory, mostly associated with poker. These are published by the publishing company Two Plus Two Publishing.

Sklansky also contributed a section to the first edition of Super/System on seven card stud hi/lo split with no qualifier for low.
