The 1981 Sacramento State Hornets football team represented Sacramento State University[note 1] during the 1981 NCAA Division II football season.
Sacramento State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC)[note 2]. The Hornets were led by fourth-year head coach Bob Mattos. They played home games at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California. The team finished the season with a record of five wins and six losses (5–6, 1–4 FWC). Overall, the team outscored its opponents 256–186 for the season.
