The 1985 South American U-16 Championship was the inaugural edition of the South American Under-17 Championship held in Argentina, a competition that also served as qualifying tournament for the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship to be held in China. It was won by hosts Argentina in a round-robin stage over runners-up Brazil, but both teams (along with Bolivia who were invited) qualified to the aforementioned 1985 World Championship.
