This page provides the summaries of the CAF Third Round matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification. The ten group winners from the second round will be drawn into five home-and-away ties. The five teams that win their respective ties will qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[1]

Seeding

The teams were seeded based on the 12 September 2013 edition of the FIFA World Rankings (shown below in brackets, and their groups the second round in small brackets).[2][3]

Matches

The draw of the play-offs was held on 16 September 2013 in Giza, Egypt.[4] The matches are scheduled to be played in the periods 11–15 October and 15–19 November 2013.[5] Confirmation of Kick off times as well as stadia will be announced by the respective FAs and CAF by 20 September[6]

Tie-break criteria

If teams are tied after the two-match series (on basis of Results, Goals Scored, Away Goals), then a Cup System will take effect.

Knockout format:

After the conclusion of the second match (i.e. 90 minutes of regulatory time), 30 minutes of overtime will be played (2 x 15 minutes) Goals scored during overtime period will be decisive.

  • a) Team scoring greater number of goals advances
  • b) If both teams score same number of goals, then team with more away goals advances

If no goals are scored in the extra-time, then penalty kick procedures will apply, as described in the Laws of the Game[7]

  1. ^ Senegal must play their home match in the play-off round at a neutral venue, due to a one-year ban from playing at their home stadium imposed by the CAF following riots in their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Côte d'Ivoire.[8]
