2017 Formula 2 Championship
The 2017 GP2 Series will be the thirteenth season of the GP2 Series, a motor racing feeder series that will be run in support of the 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship. It is the final season for the Dallara GP2/11 chassis package that debuted in 2011. It is also the final season for the current Mecachrome 4.0 Litre V8 normally-aspirated engine package that debuted in the series' maiden season; a new chassis and engine package will be introduced for the 2018 season.[1]
Prema Racing will start the season as the defending teams' champions after winning their maiden title in the series at the Sepang round of the 2016 championship.

Driver changes
- Joining GP2
- Sérgio Sette Câmara will graduate from the European Formula 3 Championship to GP2 with MP Motorsport.[3]
- GP3 champion Charles Leclerc will move up to GP2 with Prema Racing.[4] He will be joined by fellow Ferrari Driver Academy member Antonio Fuoco.[4]
- Leaving GP2
- Daniël de Jong will leave MP Motorsport and the series after the 2016 season.[5]
- 2016 season champion Pierre Gasly will leave the series as the reigning champion is not permitted to continue competing in the series.
- Alex Lynn will leave DAMS and the series after the 2016 season.[6]
- After four seasons, Mitch Evans will leave the series to focus on his Formula E commitments with Jaguar Racing.[7]
Team changes
- After missing the 2016 season, Hilmer Motorsport will return to the series.[2]
Changes
Technical regulations
- All GP2 Series cars will utilize a new Pirelli wider tyres for the first time as the series adopts Formula One tyre rules. The front tyre width will increase to 305 mm and rear tyre width will increase to 405 mm.[8]
