The 2018 AFF Championship will be the twelfth edition of the AFF Championship, the football championship of nations affiliated to the ASEAN Football Federation.

At a federation meeting in March 2016, it was suggested that in order to 'freshen' the competition, and to allay any fears over attendance issues, the group stages would not be played at a host country, but as a home and away tournament amongst those who qualified.[1] This was confirmed, along with other matters, at the federations council meetings later that month.[2]

Qualification

Along with the increase in the group format changing from having 8 teams to 10, a two-legged playoff match between those who finish bottom of their respective groups at the 2016 tournament will need to be held.[3]
