2022 FIFA World Cup Group A
Group A of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place from 21 to 29 November 2022.[1] The group consists of Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands. The top two teams will advance to the round of 16.[2]

- The winners of Group A will advance to play the runners-up of Group B.
- The runners-up of Group A will advance to play the winners of Group B.

The teams have never met before. This will be the first tournament since 1954 where the opening match doesn’t involve either the hosts or the defending champions, in order to maximise South American viewership for the Qatar vs Ecuador match.[3]

Discipline
Fair play points will be used as tiebreakers if the overall and head-to-head records of teams are tied. These are calculated based on yellow and red cards received in all group matches as follows:[2]
- first yellow card: minus 1 point;
- indirect red card (second yellow card): minus 3 points;
- direct red card: minus 4 points;
- yellow card and direct red card: minus 5 points;
Only one of the above deductions can be applied to a player in a single match.
