On 23 August 2023, an aircraft believed to be flying from Moscow to Saint Petersburg crashed, killing 10 people, of which three were crew members.[1] Unconfirmed reports, including from the Russian state-owned news agency TASS,[2] place the Russian Wagner Group bosses Yevgeny Prigozhin and Dmitry Utkin on the list of passengers.[1][3] The aircraft crashed in the Tver region, approximately 60 miles (97 km) north of its starting point in Moscow. The aircraft was a private jet made by Brazilian aeroplane manufacturer Embraer;[4] the aircraft is most likely Prigozhin's own Embraer Legacy 600, though some Russian media groups claim it was owned by MNT-Aero LLC, a business transportation company.[5][6]

A Wagner-associated Telegram channel named "Grey Zone" claimed the jet was shot down by Russian air defenses.[7]

It was reported that eight bodies were found, with two people who were also onboard the jet missing.[8] BBC reported that it was confirmed that Yevgeny died
