Lake Qalghanlu (Persian: Daryāĉe Qalghanlu, قالغانلو دریاچه, Daryāche-ye Khan Kandi;[1] Qalghanlu gölü) is the smallest natural lake in Iranian Azerbaijan. The lake is between the Khan Kandi village of Germi and the Azerbaijani border, and west of the southern portion of the Caspian Sea.[2][3][4]

Qalghanlo Lake has an approximate length of 70 meters and a width of 45 meters with an area of 3,150 square meters.

Ecology

Qalghanlu lake is a seasonal lake with the breadth of 3,000 square meters. It is placed in the east of Khan Kandi village of Germi Moghan, Ardebil province and comes from the gradual snow melting of the mountains of Qibla Dashi. In the spring season, its breadth increases. However, in the dry seasons of the year, because of increased surface evaporation and water consumption by livestock and farmers its size is reduced. A natural ecological survey of Qalghanlu lake indicates the existence of an ecosystem with a variety of aquatic organisms in it. The lake is a good place for breeding different types of cold-water fish.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
