Ren Hiramoto (born 27 June 1998) is a Japanese mixed martial artist and former kickboxer, fighting out of Japan.[3]

Aside from martial arts, Hiramoto is also a YouTuber, achieving 3.2 million views in two years.[5]

Kickboxing career

Hiramoto started kickboxing in elementary school, at the suggestion of his father. He took part in junior kickboxing and boxing competitions, winning several accolades.[6][7] In July 2014 he participated in, and won, the K-1 Koshien tournament, where he defeated a number of notable fighters, such as Yuto Shinohara, Sano Tenma and Taio Asahisa.[8]

He fought the future K-1 Super Welterweight champion Minoru Kimura in September 2015. Hiramoto lost a unanimous decision.[9]

Ren took part in the Krush 63 kg tournament.[10] He beat Yoshiki Harada in the quarterfinals by a second round KO, Taito by unanimous decision in the semi finals, but lost a majority decision to Daizo Sasaki in the finals.[11]

Hiramoto participated in the 2017 K-1 Lightweight Tournament. He defeated Brice Delval in the quarterfinals by a majority decision. In the semifinals he knocked Gonnapar Weerasakreck out in the first round. In the finals Hiramoto faced Wei Rui and ended up losing the fight by split decision.[12]

In late 2017, he fought a rematch with Daizo Sasaki.[13] Hiramoto won the rematch through a unanimous decision.[14]

Hiramoto was scheduled to fight Kaew Weerasakreck during K'Festa 1. Hiramoto pulled off a shocking upset by KO in the second round.[15] He was awarded the Combat Press "Upset of the Year" in 2018, when he became the first man to ever knock out the three times K-1 -65kg world tournament champion Kaew Weerasakreck in a kickboxing match.

Hiramoto fought Takahiro Ashida during the Bellator and Rizin cross-promotion event in December 2019.[16][17] He won the fight in the first round, by TKO. Subsequently, he retired from kickboxing in order to pursue a career in professional mixed martial arts.[3]

Hiramoto was ranked as a top ten featherweight according to Combat Press from April 2018[18] until July 2020,[19] when he transitioned to mixed martial arts, and signed with Rizin.[20]

Mixed martial arts career

Hiramoto signed a contract with Rizin in June 2020, intending to compete in mixed martial arts.[21] Hiramoto is scheduled to make his professional mixed martial arts debut against Kyohei Hagiwara at Rizin 26 on December 31, 2020.[22] He lost the fight via ground and pound TKO in round 2.[23]
