August 25-September 11: 1960 Summer Olympics, celebrated in Rome. For the first time in history, Olympic Games are almost integrally covered by television; RAI shows itself equal to the occasion, with 106 hours of airing in Eurovision.[1]
October 11: for the 1960 Italian local elections, first airing of the Electoral tribune, hosted by Gianni Granzotto, where exponents of every party answer to the journalists' question; for the first time, the left and right oppositions had access to the Italian television. The program is inaugurated by the Minister of InteriorMario Scelba who, despite his reputation of reactionary, appears on video humorous and relaxed.[2] The following day it’s the turn of the DC secretary Aldo Moro who, instead, turns out rather uneasy with the new media.[3]
