Bongbong 1 was a Philippine liquid-propellant rocket developed under Project Santa Barbara[citation needed]. The rocket was an experimental system developed by the Philippine Navy, engineers, and a group of scientists that could range up to 400–500 km[citation needed]. The rocket was named after the son of then President Ferdinand Marcos, Bongbong Marcos. The rocket was first successfully launched on March 12, 1972[dubiousdiscuss] and the rocket was successfully retrieved from the South China Sea.[1] The rocket was mainly tested in Caballo island[citation needed], though four of the tests were held at Fort Magsaysay. Once President Ferdinand's term as president ended, former president Cory Aquino shut it down due to the critics of the Filipinos to cancel the project because of the possible result of the making of nuclear weapons. The fate of the project, as well as its blueprints since its retirement, remain unknown.[2][better source needed]
