Mulu Nega Kahsay is an Ethiopian academic and politician serving as the chief executive of the Transitional Government of Tigray and the federal Ethiopian Minister of Science and Education.[2] In November 2020 during the Tigray conflict, the House of Federation appointed Mulu Nega to replace Debretsion Gebremichael as chief executive of the Tigray Region;[3] According to EEPA, Mulu offered his resignation in January 2021, stating that the administration was powerless to handle the situation.[disputed (for: Not reported by Ethiopian government or private media.) ]
Childhood and education
Mulu was born on 15 November 1967.[1] He obtained his PhD from the University of Twente in 2012, with a thesis titled, "Quality and quality assurance in Ethiopian higher education: critical issues and practical implications".[1]
Research and teaching
Mulu served as an assistant professor at Addis Ababa University.[citation needed]
Politics
Mulu became Minister of Science and Higher Education in Ethiopia on 6 May 2020.[2]

During the Tigray conflict in November 2020, Mulu Nega was appointed as chief executive of the Transitional Government of Tigray by the House of Federation[3] to replace Debretsion Gebremichael of the Tigray People's Liberation Front as President of the Tigray Region. According to Europe External Programme with Africa (EEPA), Mulu Nega handed in a resignation letter in late January 2021, stating that the transitional administration had no power to respond to "the plight of the people of Tigray who are starving to death and sexually harassed by foreign forces".[5]
Personal life
Mulu is married and has three children.[citation needed]
