Clarivate is a company formed in 2016, following the acquisition of Thomson Reuters' Intellectual Property and Science Business by Onex Corporation and Baring Private Equity Asia.[3] On May 13, 2019, Clarivate merged with Churchill Capital Corp and was publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange with ticker symbol CCC.[4]

Clarivate owns and operates a collection of subscription-based services focused largely on analytics, including scientific and academic research, patent intelligence and compliance standards, pharmaceutical and biotech intelligence trademark, domain and brand protection.[5] The services include Web of Science, Cortellis, Derwent, Derwent World Patents Index, CompuMark, MarkMonitor, Techstreet, Publons, EndNote, Kopernio, and ScholarOne.[6]

Clarivate publishes an annual Highly Cited Researchers list. The list recognizes "the world's most influential researchers of the past decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science."[16] Researchers are selected for their exceptional performance in one or more of 21 fields (those used in Clarivate Essential Science Indicators, or ESI) or across several fields. The 2019 list of Highly Cited Researchers was released on November 19, 2019.[17]

Citation Laureates

Clarivate Citation Laureates formerly Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates is a list of candidates considered likely to win the Nobel Prize in their respective field. Each year since 2002, Institute for Scientific Information analysts have drawn on Web of Science publication and citation data to identify influential researchers in the research areas recognized by Nobel Prizes: Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry and Economics. Out of some 50 million articles and proceedings indexed in the Web of Science since 1970, only 5,700 (or .01%) have been cited 2,000 or more times. It is from the authors of this group of papers that Citation Laureates are identified and selected. The 2020 Citation Laureates were named on September 23, 2020.[18] Since 2002, 59 individuals named Citation Laureates by Clarivate have gone on to receive Nobel prizes.[19]
