Chavín de Huántar District is one of sixteen districts of the Huari Province in Peru.[1]

Geography

The Cordillera Blanca traverses the western part of the district. Some of the highest peaks of the district are listed below:[2]

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (82.85%) learnt to speak in childhood, 16.71% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]
