Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra (born 1 July 2004) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Manchester United.[2] Born in Madrid, Spain, he is a youth international for Argentina, for whom he qualifies through his mother.[3]
Club career
Atlético Madrid
Garnacho, mainly featured in Atlético Madrid’s Juvenil B side but also appeared for their Under-19s team.
Manchester United
In October 2020, Garnacho signed for Manchester United from Atlético Madrid.[4]
He came under the spotlight for his solo effort goal in the FA Youth Cup win over Everton. His goal was nominated for Manchester United's Goal of the Month award for February 2022.[5] After being named as an unused substitute for the Premier League matches against Norwich City, Liverpool and Arsenal, Garnacho made his first-team debut for United on 28 April 2022, replacing Anthony Elanga in the 91st minute of a 1–1 draw against Chelsea.[6]
International career
Garnacho is eligible to play for Spain and Argentina as his mother is an Argentine.
Garnacho was called up to the Spain under-17 side on 25 May 2021 for the trainings in May.[7][8] Garnacho represented and made his debut for the Spain under-18 on October 8, 2021.[9]
On 7 March 2022, Garnacho was called up to the Argentina senior team as part of an initial 44-man squad for their World Cup qualifiers that month.[10] He made it to the final 33-man squad for the fixtures.[11][12]
Garnacho made his debut for the Argentina under-20 side on 26 March 2022, where he started in the friendly match against United States.[13]
