[edit]

Goons Be Gone was met with generally positive reviews. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 to reviews from professional publications, the album received an average score of 74, based on 10 reviews.[2] Aggregator Album of the Year gave the album 68 out of 100 based on a critical consensus of 8 reviews.[15] In his Substack-published "Consumer Guide" column, Robert Christgau found the band's latest iteration of grating avant-punk "deployed cleverly enough" and admired "the way they always come down on the right side of the divide between commitment and repeating yourself".[4]
