Richard Russell Baker (July 9, 1909 - February 10, 1993) was the official pronouncer of the Scripps National Spelling Bee from 1961 to 1980. Baker was at University of Dayton for forty years, and was chairman of the philosophy department from 1964 to 1973.

After Baker retired, spelling bee officials asked Alex Cameron to take Baker's place.[1] Baker died in Dayton, Ohio, on February 10, 1993, at age 83.[2]
