Bolnisi (Georgian: ბოლნისის მუნიციპალიტეტი) is a district of Georgia, in the region of Kvemo Kartli. Its main town is Bolnisi.

Geographical location

Bolnisi District is situated in the southwest of the country and shares a border with Armenia. The area of district is 804 km². The highest point is Lok mount, at 2124 m. above sea level.

Administrative division

Bolnisi district consists of 3 towns (Bolnisi, Kazreti and Tamarisi) and 45 villages. The largest village is Fakhralo.

Population

The population of the district was 76.7 thousand people[2] at the beginning of 2009 and has diminished 7% since the independence of Georgia. According to the 2002 census Azeris predominate at 66%. Georgians are 26.8% and Armenians 5.8%.[3]
