Ellery Cairo (born 3 August 1978) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a right winger.

Playing career

Club

Cairo played for Feyenoord, Excelsior, FC Twente, SC Freiburg, Hertha BSC,[2] Coventry City, NAC,[3] Heracles[4] and finally AGOVV Apeldoorn.[5] He was a speedy midfield player with pace to burn and enjoyed a couple of international call ups in which he did not feature in any of the games.

Cairo was signed by Coventry City on 30 June 2007 on a free transfer from Hertha BSC.[6] After only one season manager Chris Coleman announced that Cairo's contract was not to be renewed and he was subsequently released.

International

Cairo received a call-up for the Netherlands national football team for a friendly against Italy in 2005, after Ruud van Nistelrooy pulled out because of injury.[7] However, Cairo never played a minute for Oranje.

Managerial career

In summer 2014, Cairo was appointed assistant coach at the FC Twente Women's team.[8] He announced his departure in 2017.
