  8. ^ Adlai E. Stevenson III originally won the Democratic nomination, but refused to run with the Lt. Governor nominee, a follower of Lyndon LaRouche. Stevenson withdrew as the Democratic candidate, leaving a vacancy in the nomination, and instead formed the Solidarity Party. The State Central Committee of the Illinois Democratic Party left the vacancy unfilled.
