S. K. Paramasivan is an Indian politician who served as member of Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India between 1962 and 1967.[1] He is commonly known as SKP or SKP thatha (thatha is Grandfather in Tamil).

Early life

SKP was born in Sinniampalayam, a village near Erode (in then Madras Presidency) as the tenth child to Kumarasamy Gounder and Kuppayi Ammal.[2]

Political career

SKP joined Indian National Congress. He was the president of Muthugoundenpalayam panchayat for 10 years before becoming the member of Parliament from Erode Constituency in 1962. He has held office as the President of Coimbatore District Congress Committee. He has also held several positions like the head of Sinniyampalayam Milk Producers' Cooperative Bank for 35 years and Erode District Milk Producers' Cooperative Union for 4 years.[2]

Donations

When Acharya Vinoba Bhave started Bhoodhan movement, many landlords donated part of their land to poor and the landless. In Tamilnadu, SKP donated a part of very fertile land he owned to landless farmers.

He also made generous donations during the India China war.

White revolution in Erode

Lal Bahadur Shastri started the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1964. Dr. Kurien chose SKP to lead the effort in Tamilnadu. Through SKP's efforts, Aavin Dairy that operates in 55 acres in Chithode, training center, Cattle feed manufacturing unit near Erode, dairy cold storage units in Dharapuram and Sathyamangalam were established. He was also responsible for many Milk producers' Cooperative Societies in many village around Erode. He is aptly called as the "Father of Dairies" in and around Erode.[2]
