Springwater is a town in Waushara County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,389 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34.8 square miles (90.2 km²), of which, 33.5 square miles (86.8 km²) of it is land and 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²) of it (3.76%) is water.
Demographics
At the 2000 census there were 1,389 people in 617 households, including 430 families, in the town. The population density was 41.4 people per square mile (16.0/km²). There were 1,420 housing units at an average density of 42.4 per square mile (16.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.85% White, 0.22% African American, 0.07% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50%.[2]
Of the 617 households 21.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.1% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 25.4% of households were one person and 11.5% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.67.
The age distribution was 19.2% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 21.1% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 25.1% 65 or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.4 males.
The median household income was $35,714 and the median family income was $40,385. Males had a median income of $31,780 versus $22,563 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,586. About 5.6% of families and 8.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.3% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
