Nash Edgerton (born 19 January 1973) is an Australian film director and stuntman, and a principal member of the movie-making collective Blue-Tongue Films.

Life

Edgerton was born in Blacktown, New South Wales and grew up in Dural (both suburbs of Sydney); the son of Marianne Margarethe (von Dort), a homemaker, and Michael Edgerton, a solicitor/property developer.[1][2][3] His brother is actor Joel Edgerton. His mother is a Dutch immigrant, who was born in The Hague.[4][5]

He began dating Carla Ruffino in 2011 and they married on 1 April 2014. He is stepfather to her daughter, Chika Yasumura, from a previous marriage.[6][7] They have one daughter together, Zumi (born 11 August 2015).[8][9]

Career

As a stuntman, he has worked on such films as The Matrix trilogy, The Thin Red Line, Superman Returns, and, most notably, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, as the stunt double for Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi.[10] His brother Joel appeared in those same films as young Owen Lars.

Intermittently throughout his career he has made critically receptive short films often starring himself such as spider and Bear. Consistent with his short film prowess, he has directed a total of four music videos for artist Bob Dylan ("Beyond Here Lies Nothin'", "Must Be Santa", "Duquesne Whistle", and "The Night We Called It a Day"). His feature-length directorial debut was The Square a notable Australian crime noire of 2008 under Blue Tongue Films. His latest act as feature film director was Gringo, released in 2018.

His latest focus has been directing 17 episodes of surprising TV hit Mr Inbetween, an Australian television black comedy-drama series commissioned by FX Australia starring Scott Ryan. Scott Ryan being a doubly notable figure considering he not only created the character but directed, starred and wrote the original short film that the show itself is based on. Nash had seen the short film, inspiring him to colloborate with Mr Ryan, to bring his character to a wider audience.
