Badaber, also spelled Badhber, is a village in Peshawar District of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. It is located to the south of Peshawar city around 10 kilometers on Kohat road.[1]

Overview

Badaber is the location of the Badaber refugee camp and jail, established in February 1980,[1] which was the site of the Badaber Uprising in 1985, where Soviet and Afghan captives staged an armed revolt in an attempt to escape.[2] Some neighbouring villages are Sheikh Mohammadi, Darra, Bazi Khel, Kaga wala. People from tribes Hoorizai, Khalil, Momand live here.

Badaber is famous for former US Air Station (officially Pakistan Air Station), which was built in 1958 from which the 1960 Gary Powers U-2 mission was coordinated on 10 year lease. During the peak of its operations, there were over 1000 US personnel stationed here.[3][4][5]

Badaber is part of Pakistan National Assembly seat NA-4 (Peshawar-4) while for KP Provincial Assembly some part of Badaber comes in PF-10 (Peshawar-10) and some area comes in PF-11 (Peshawar-11).[6]
