Sanjeevani Bhelande (born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra) is an Indian singer.[2] She is known for her songs from movie Kareeb, her English book and album Meera and me and has given over 2000 live concerts.

Personal life

Sanjeevani was born in a family of academicians. Her father was Director of Education for Maharashtra government and Professor of Sanskrit. Her mother retired as a Professor of English. She has an older sister and brother.[citation needed]

She holds a degree in music (Sangeet Visharad), is trained in Odissi and Kathak classical-dance forms. She holds a Masters in Commerce and a Diploma in Mass Communication.

Career

Sanjeevani sang five of the eight songs of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Hindi movie Kareeb, which was her first movie as playback singer. She won the Ashirwad Best Playback Singer Award for the song "Chori chori jab nazrein mili". She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in 1999. She has performed more than 2000 concerts around the world, including her song "Nigahe Milane ko ji chahata hai" from one of the concerts, which received 1 million hits. Her voice is also extremely popular in devotional songs, especially aartis (songs sung in praise of the deity). Her aartis like "Jai adya shakti" has 9 million hits on YouTube, "Sukhkarta dukhaharta" has 2 million hits and "Om jai Jagdish hare" has 5 million hits.

In her book and album Meera and Me, she has translated and sung Meerabai's poems into English. These were released by Mahesh Bhatt and Vidhu Vinod Chopra[3] along with Jackie Shroff and Ravindra Jain. She has composed and sung around 100 tracks for the online spiritual channel, Rajshri Soul. She represented India in the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) song festival held in Istanbul in October 2015 and won accolades.[4][5] "Darshnam paapnashanam" in Gujrati, "Tooniga tooniga" in Telugu, "Bichiya ro ranko" in Rajasthani and has sung in 11 different languages.[6] She has co-hosted Doordarshan TV serial Picnic Antakshari with Sachin Pilgaonkar and also hosted a cookery show Swad Sanjeevani in In 2017.
