Hanoch Piven (born August 21, 1963 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is an Israeli mixed media artist best known for his celebrity caricatures.

History

Hanoch Piven was born in Uruguay and moved to Israel with his family at the age of eleven. He grew up in Ramat Gan.[1] He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, graduating in 1992.[2] When he returned to Israel in 1995, he began to work for Haaretz newspaper.[3]

Artistic career

Piven's illustrated compositions are assembled from common objects and scraps of materials, including items which might be associated with the subject (for example, using bologna and liquor bottles to create Boris Yeltsin for Haaretz in 2000.[4] His caricatures appear in Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, The Atlantic Monthly, The Times, and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications.

Workshops and Teaching

Piven conducts workshops around the world where he teaches his own collage technique and encourages children and adults to use common day-to-day objects to create works of art and communicate non verbally through them. The workshops are geared to diverse audiences, from school children and educators to corporate executives. Piven also lectures at international conferences.
