Martín Rejtman (born January 3, 1961 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine film producer, film director, screenplay writer and literary author. He works in the cinema of Argentina and is considered one of the founding fathers of the New Argentine Cinema wave.[1]
Biography
Rejtman studied cinema at the Escuela Panamericana de Arte in Buenos Aires. He then studied filmmaking at New York University, where he had to make one short per week and had to shoot with what was available.
At NYU he established a mode of production embraced by many other young Argentine filmmakers, both before and since: that is, the art of working with a small budget.[2]
In 2019, Rejtman released a comedic short film, Shakti and explained that is about "a Jewish young man, the death of his grandmother, depression, Hare Krishnas, Pesach (Passover), and potato knishes."[3][4]
His next project is a feature film tentatively titled, The Practice that will be his first picture filmed outside Argentina. It will follow an Argentine yoga instructor living in Chile.[1]
Filming style
Rejtman uses a minimalist style when making films. He said, "When I made Rapado, I felt that Argentine cinema had too much dialogue, and bad dialogue at that. I hate adornments, I hate artifice, I hate anything that's unnecessary, because there really is nothing beyond the screen."[5]
