Margot Bernice Forde (née Ashwin; 1935 – 23 June 1992, Palmerston North)[1] was a botanist, curator, and New Zealand taxonomist.[2][3]

Forde graduated from Wellington Girls’ College and Victoria University of Wellington where she studied natural history and botany.[4] Both Margot and her husband Bernard received Ph.D. degrees from the Botany Department of the University of California, Davis Campus in the early 1960s.

Forde researched the plant taxonomies of Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang (China), and the Caucasus. She was a leading scientist in the field of seed conservation in grazing plants.[5]
