Josephine Karungi, is a Ugandan journalist and television personality who was appointed as Head of News, at NTV Uganda , in acting capacity, effective 1 October 2018. In her new position, she reports directly to the general manager, Editorial, Daniel Kalinaki.[1][2]

Early life and education

Josephine was born in Uganda. After attending local primary and secondary schools, she was admitted to Makerere University, Uganda's largest and oldest public university, in Kampala, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Mass Communication degree.[1]

Career

Ms. Karungi joined Nation Television Uganda (NTV Uganda) in 2009 as an English language news anchor. Since then, she has also worked as a television producer and as presenter of the Sunday night lifestyle television talk show, Perspective With Josephine Karungi.[1][2] In October 2018, she was appointed Head of News at NTV Uganda, replacing Maurice Mugisha, who was hired by Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, as their new Deputy managing director.[3]

Family

On 22 December 2012, Josephine Karungi was married to Vince Musisi, a Ugandan record producer. The private ceremony and a reception for about one hundred invited guests took place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, on the northern shores of Lake Victoria.[4] Media reports from Kampala, Uganda, indicated that they were still married, as of May 2018.[5] Karungi is the mother of one child, born in August 2016, in the United Kingdom.[6]

Other considerations

In January 2017, the Daily Monitor newspaper named Josephine Karungi, one of "Uganda's most likely influential people in 2017".[7]
