Saransky Uyezd

Saransky Uyezd (Саранский уезд) was one of the subdivisions of the Penza Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the eastern part of the governorate. Its administrative centre was Saransk.

Demographics

At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Saransky Uyezd had a population of 143,130. Of these, 74.1% spoke Russian, 17.9% Mordvin, and 7.9% Tatar as their native language.[1]
