Introduction

Forbes Marshall is an leading multinational engineering company, specializing in steam engineering and control instrumentation.[3] Forbes Marshall makes steam engineering and control instrumentation products.[4] Its origins trace to a venture by J. N. Marshall and Darius Forbes in Pune in the 1940s, with a factory established at Kasarwadi, Pune in 1958.[5] It is based in Pune, Maharashtra.

History

J N Marshall & Co. was setup as a trading company in 1926 and started supplying steam accessories to a thriving textile industry in Ahmedabad, India.

In 1946, J N Marshall & Co. entered into distribution of steam products and a tie up with Cochran for selling packaged boilers.

In 1958, J N Marshall set up its first manufacturing facility in Kasarwadi, Pune, India.

In 1959,the company started manufacturing steam system products.

Forbes Marshall entered into the control & instrumentation business in 1962. They formed strategic alliances with companies like Cambridge Instruments, UK and Polymetron, France.

In 1984, Forbes Marshall entered into a joint venture with Krohne Messtechnik, Germany for the manufacture of flow and level instruments. In 2006, Krohne Marshall set up Asia's largest flowmeter calibration facility.

The company in association with Shinkawa Electric Co, Japan also started the sale and distribution of vibration monitoring equipment.

Forbes Marshall launched a range of control valves and de-superheating stations in collaboration with Arca Regler, Germany in 1985.

Forbes Marshall started operating out of its Pimpri facility in 1986.

In 1997, they entered into the energy services and consultancy business.

In 2008, Forbes Marshall made its first international investment in Codel International, UK.[6] In 2015, Codel became a subsidiary of Forbes Marshall.[7]

Forbes Vyncke, a joint venture between Forbes Marshall and Vyncke NV, Belgium is incorporated in 2009 for the manufacture of biomass solid fuel fired boilers.[8] The venture started manufacturing biomass and other boilers at a new facility in Chakan from 2013.[9]

Manufacturing

The award-winning state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Chakan[10] near Pune, is spread over 50 acres of land and was designed by Christopher Charles Benninger Architects.[11] The campus has dedicated assembly and test rigs for hydro, seat leak and performance testing to ensure high quality systems.

Flow meters and control valves are manufactured at the Forbes Marshall facilities in Pimpri, Pune. The facility also boasts of a sophisticated calibration rig with the capability to calibrate flowmeters of up to 2000 mm. This NABL accredited rig is the second largest in Asia.[12][13]

A manufacturing facility in Hyderabad manufactures pressure and temperature mechanical instruments for process applications.

Codel International,  a wholly owned subsidiary of Forbes Marshall, has manufacturing facility in the UK for industrial emission analysers, industrial stacks and road and rail tunnels. The facility also hosts an independent R&D centre.
