Pattegar (also spelt as Patvegar, Patewegar, Patwegar, Patvekari, Patekar & Pattagar) or Patkar (Khatri) is a Hindu community predominantly residing in the Indian states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They wear the sacred thread[1] and they are Kshatriyas.[2][3] Nowadays they call themselves as Somavamshiya Sahasrarjun Kshatriyas[4][5] or SSK Samaj.[6][7]
All of them follow Hinduism.[8] They claim their lineage to legendary king Sahasrarjuna and celebrate Sahasrarjuna Jayanti.[9][10]
Language
The Pattegars speak a language called Pattegari or Khatri or Saurashtra,[11] a dialect of Gujarati with the amalgamation of present-day Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Kannada.[12]
