The Fantasy Filmfest, short FFF, is an international genre film festival held annually around September in major German cities.

History

The Fantasy Filmfest initially took place in 1987 in Hamburg. Film of fantastic film genres such as fantasy, horror, thriller and science fiction are shown. However, it also features arthouse productions as well as anime or black comedy movies.

The festival evolved into a format where it takes place in different cties around the same time of the year. In recent years, it was held in the seven cities Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg. The festival established two other format, the FFF White Nights, held in January, and the FFF Nights, held in April/May in those seven cities, where around 10 movies are played at one weekend.

Award

In 2006, the Fantasy Filmfest established an audience award, named Fresh Blood Award, for the best first or second feature film of a director.
