Monodora tenuifolia is a species of plant in the family Annonaceae. It is native to equatorial Africa.[1] George Bentham, the English botanist who first formally described the species, named it after its slender (tenuis, in Latin) leaves (folium, in Latin).
Description
It is a small tree reaching 8 to 10 meters in height. Its narrow, oblong leaves are 15-20 by 4-5 centimeters. Its solitary flowers are on a long pedicel. Its 6 petals are arranged in two rows of 3. The outer petals are white with red highlights when young, turning to pinkish yellow when mature. The outer petals reach 8.5 centimeters in length and have wavy margins. The inner petals are similarly colored but smaller and hairy at their tips. Its fruit are spherical and 8-10 centimeters in diameter.[2][3] The pollen is shed as permanent tetrads.[4]
