Maya Tahan (born 9 January 1999) is an Israeli tennis player. She was ranked a career-high 578 in the WTA singles rankings in September 2019, and a career-high 456 in the WTA doubles rankings in October 2019. She plays at the University of Miami for the Miami Hurricanes.

Biography

Tahan is from Tel Mond, Israel.[1] Her parents are Gil and Merav Tahan.[2] Her father is a colonel in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and her mother is a financial officer.[2] She has an older sister, Roni, and two younger sisters, Dana and Shira.[2]

Tennis career

Tahan began playing tennis at the age of eight.[1] She moved to train at the Netanya Tennis Club when she was 11 years old.[1] She attended Rabin High School.[2] She served in the IDF for two years.[2] In December 2017 she won the Israel national doubles championship title partnering with Vlada Ekshibarova.[3]

She was ranked a career-high 578 in the WTA singles rankings in September 2019, and a career-high 456 in the WTA doubles rankings in October 2019.[2] Tahan won two ITF $15K singles championships in 2018, and 10 $15K doubles events, and won a $25K doubles tournament in August 2019.[2][4]

As a freshman at the University of Miami in 2019-20, playing for the Miami Hurricanes, Tahan had her spring tennis season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.[2] She was 7-4 in singles, and 2-6 in doubles.[2]

Tahan also has represented Israel in the Fed Cup in 2016, 2017, and 2019, where she has a record of 2-5.[5][2]
