Clayton Howard Beeter (born October 9, 1998) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He played college baseball at Texas Tech.
Career
Beeter attended Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, where he played football and baseball.[1] In 2017, his senior year, he compiled a 0.81 ERA and 106 strikeouts over 55 innings alongside batting .417 with two home runs.[2] Undrafted in the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at Texas Tech University to play college baseball.
Beeter suffered an arm injury in the fall of freshman year at Texas Tech, and underwent Tommy John surgery, thus forcing him to miss the 2018 season.[3] He returned healthy as a redshirt freshman in 2019, going 0–3 with a 3.48 ERA over 20+2⁄3 relief innings, striking out forty.[4] He was named to the All-Big 12 Conference Second Team and the All-Big 12 Freshman Team alongside being named a freshman All-American by multiple media outlets.[5] In 2020, his redshirt sophomore season, Beeter moved into the starting rotation, and was named the starting pitcher for Texas Tech's season opener.[6] Beeter went 2–1 with a 2.14 ERA over four starts before the college baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[7]
Beeter was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 66th overall pick in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft.[8] He signed with the Dodgers on July 5, 2020.[9]
