Second-seeded John Newcombe defeated Onny Parun 6–3, 6–7, 7–5, 6–1 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1973 Australian Open. Ken Rosewall was the two time defending champion, but was upset in the second round by unseeded Karl Meiler.

The format was the first round was best of 3 sets and the rest of the tournament was best of 5 sets.
