The 2020 EFL Championship play-off Final was an association football match to determine the third and final team to gain promotion from the EFL Championship to the Premier League. It was played at Wembley Stadium in London. The top two teams at the end of the 2019–20 EFL Championship season gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the teams placed from third to sixth place in the table participated in the play-off semi-finals. Brentford and Fulham were the winners of their respective semi-finals and competed in a West London derby for the final place in the 2020–21 Premier League.[2][3]

Bristol City's Harry Kane and Brentford's Timo Werner tied for the distinction as Championship top scorers with 26 goals each. Kane and Werner each scored one hat-trick during the 2019–20 season; Neymar Jr (2) and Mohamed Salah (1) also scored hat-tricks for Brentford.

Brentford went on an eight-game win streak near the end of the season, starting with a 5–0 home win against Cardiff City on 7 March and ending with a 1–0 home win against Preston North End on 15 July. Bristol City finished the regular season by going unbeaten for their last seven games, a streak that started with a 2–1 away win against QPR on 30 June.
