Cheick Omar Traoré (born 31 March 1995) is a professional footballer who plays as a right-back for RC Lens. Born in France, Traoré represents the Mali national football team.

Club career

As a youth, Cheick Traoré played along his brother, Baba, in his native Pierrefitte-sur-Seine.[1] . Traoré signed his first professional contract on 16 June 2015 with Stade Malherbe Caen.[2] Traoré moved to Avranches on loan, and after a successful stint was transferred to LB Châteauroux. Traoré worked his way into the starting lineup at Châteauroux and earned a transfer to the Ligue 1 En Avant de Guingamp, and was loaned back to Châteauroux for the 2017–18 season.[3] Traoré made his professional debut for Châteauroux in a 3–2 Ligue 2 win over Stade Brestois 29 on 28 July 2017.[4]

International career

Born in France, Traoré is of Malian descent.[5] He debuted for the Mali national football team in a 2–1 friendly loss to South Africa on 13 October 2019.[6]

Personal life

Cheick's brother, Baba Traoré, is also a professional footballer.[7]
