Ruth Mumbi (born 6 November 1980), born in Kiamaiko, a Nairobi slum [1] is a Kenyan Human Rights Defender with a record defending vulnerable women who are at risk.[2] In 2010 she founded and led 'Warembo Ni Yes' which was a group of young women who were keen on ensuring the passing of the current constitution of Kenya. She is the leader of Bunge la Wamama mashinani, a platform that has earned her recognition in her work as a human rights defender.

During Autumn 2014 she participated in the human rights fellowship programme at the University of York in the United Kingdom.[3]

Mumbi has won several awards in recognition of her work.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] In 2013 she was nominated and a finalist of Front Line Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk.[11]
