"Let the Beat Control Your Body" is a 1994 song recorded by Dutch Eurodance band 2 Unlimited. It is the fifth and final single taken from their second album, No Limits.[1] The album version was largely instrumental and contained just a few spoken words from Ray and Anita. The single version, however, contained full verses rapped by Ray, and a new chorus sung by Anita. The single scored chart success in many European countries, peaking at number 2 in the Netherlands, and within the Top 10 in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain and the UK.

Reception and airplay

Perthshire Advertiser commented in their review, "You know what to expect and, yes, they deliver it!"[2] "Let The Beat Control Your Body" entered the European airplay chart Border Breakers at number 16 on February 4 due to crossover airplay in Central-, North West- and North-Europe and peaked at number 4 on March 19.[3]

Chart performance

"Let the Beat Control Your Body" was a major hit all over Europe, and very successful on the charts. It became one of 2 Unlimited's biggest hits to date, peaking within the Top 10 in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Spain and the United Kingdom. In the latter, the single peaked at number 6 on February 27, 1994,[4] in its third week on the UK Singles Chart. On the Eurochart Hot 100, "Let the Beat Control Your Body" went to number 5, entering the chart on February 12 at 87 and soaring up to peak at 5 within three weeks. It also reached number-one on the European Dance Radio Chart. Additionally, the song was a Top 20 hit in Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland. And on MTV's European Top 20, it reached number 3. Outside Europe, it peaked at number 6 in Israel, number 29 in New Zealand and number 39 in Australia.

Music video

The music video for "Let The Beat Control Your Body" was directed by director Nigel Simpkiss. It was released in the UK in January 1994. The video was uploaded to YouTube in December 2013. As of August 2020, it has got more than 1,3 million views.[5]

Appearances

Dance music artist Chaah (aka Susanne Jark) uses the melody from "Let the Beat Control Your Body" in her 1999 release titled "The Funkiness of You".[6]

It also became famous again because of Britain's Got Talent when act DJ John performed the song in the auditions.
