Aguirre is a surname of Basque origin (spelled in current Basque orthography as Agirre)[citation needed] as well as a place name, found primarily in the Basque region of north-central Spain and southwestern France. Its definition is debatable. The most accepted definition is prominence in old Basque.[citation needed] This word may refer to:
