Airwave Wireless, Inc. was founded in 2000 as an Wi-Fi hotspot provider, with venture capital from Idealab.[1] In the wake of the dot-com bust they adopted a new business model, selling wireless network management software: the AirWave Management Platform, or AMP. Unlike most similar software, which typically supports one vendor's brand of access points, the AMP supported managing access points from many different vendors.[2]

AirWave also provides a wireless visualization and planning tool, VisualRF and a rogue detection module RAPIDs.

In 2008 AirWave was acquired by Aruba Networks, Inc,[2] who continued to sell the AMP software and use the AirWave Wireless brand.
