History

[edit]

Marwaniye (today called Akyar) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.[6] There were ten Assyrian families in 1915.[7] Amidst the Sayfo, all but one of the Assyrians at Marwaniye were murdered.[2] By 1987, there were no remaining Assyrians.[7]
