Amakohia Ubi is a community in the Owerri West Local Government area of Imo State (1). The community is divided into four villages which includes; Umunjam, Obiọkwu, Umuike, and Umuọka. Each of these villages have at least eight kindreds. Amakọhia - Ubi. Originally, Amakọhia-Ubi was a village in Umunwọha (Children of Nwọha) community comprising Ohii, Amakohia-Ubi, Ndegwu, Orogwe, and Irete in order of seniority, until each of them was recognized as autonomous by the People's Democratic Party-led Government. Thus, on the 3rd of January, 2003 the first Eze of an Autonomous Amakohia-Ubi community in the person of Eze Smart Nze was installed. Up until this time, the community was ruled by Eze Umunwoha ( King of Umunwoha), the last of which was Eze Ejiogu whose seat was in Orogwe. Traditionally, each of these villages traces its origin to Nwoha, a relative of Ekwem Ọha Arugo, founder of Owerri-Nchise (now Owerri Municipal) town in the 14th century AD (2). The people are Christians of mainly of Roman Catholic and Anglo Catholic denominations. Currently, an influx of Pentecostal Christianity is being witnessed. A statistically negligible few still practice paganism. Amakohia-Ubi is bounded on the North by Ogbaku in Mbaitoli LGA, On the West by Agwa in Uguta LGA, on the East by Orogwe, and on the south by Ndegwu. References
