This taxon has been divided into five genera including Podomonas, Manchomonas, and Multimonas.[2]
Several species have been described including:
- Amastigomonas borokensis, Amastigomonas caudata, Amastigomonas debruynei
- Podomonas magna, Podomonas capensis
- Multimonas media
- Thecamonas oxoniensis, Thecamonas trahens
The genera Apusomonas and Manchomonas appear to be closely related but the branching order of the other genera has yet to be established.
