The Appleton medal and prize is awarded for distinguished research in environmental, earth or atmospheric physics. It was originally called the "Chree medal and prize" after Dr. Charles Chree[1] but was renamed in 2008 by the Institute of Physics.[2] It is currently awarded in even-dated years.
